Borough Council

Purpose of committee

Borough Council is the main policy making body of the Authority chaired by the Mayor. The Council is made up of all sixty Councillors.

The Council is responsible for the appointment of members to its committees including the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Standards Committee and the Planning Committee, and most sub-committees. The Council agrees the Council Tax, approves the policy and budget framework for Hounslow and also appoints to formal positions such as the Mayor. In addition, the Council has a ceremonial role such as honouring people by making them freemen of the borough.  The Council meets approximately every month.
