Questions from Members

Councillor Sam Hearn to ask Councillor Richard Foote, Cabinet Member for Communities

"What monitoring procedures are in place to ensure that Officers and Lead Members reply to emails from residents and councillors? What disciplinary action has been taken in the last three years against Officers and Lead Members who do not reply to emails received by them from residents and councillors.

Proposed by Councillor Paul Lynch and Seconded by Councillor Sam Hearn

"This Council has great sympathy for Spelthorne Borough Council in their search for land to meet their housing targets. Although we are concerned about proposed developments at Kempton Park this is not the place to comment on planning matters, but we do value the Green Belt, and believe that an overwhelming case must be made if it is to be built on. We are very proud that the support and enthusiasm of the people of Feltham for racing at Kempton is commemorated in an important race on Boxing Day, one of racing’s most important days. The Feltham Chase (retitled the Kauto Star chase in 2012, but still known to many as the Feltham) is a Grade 1 National Hunt chase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. They cover a distance of about 3 miles (4,828 metres), jumping eighteen fences. Lizzie Kelly's victory on Tea for Two in 2015 made her the first female jockey to win a Grade One race in Britain.

This Council seeks the assurance that this famous race, which embodies so much of the history and traditions of the Borough of Hounslow, should, in the sad circumstances of racing ceasing at Kempton, be run elsewhere, under similar conditions, to perpetuate the memory of Feltham, Kauto Star and Lizzie Kelly's victory."
