Questions from Members

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat to ask Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children's Services and Youth Services

"Like all parents with a young child, I have been following recent articles and comments in the press regarding the national roll-out of the thirty hours free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds with increasing interest. Could the Cabinet Member give us an update about the implementation of this provision in Hounslow?"

Councillor Sam Hearn to ask Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment

“Can the Cabinet Member for the Environment advise what progress has been in made in achieving the 50% recycling target?”

Councillor Gerald McGregor to ask Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment

“The Cabinet Member will be aware of the many complaints about the new recycling scheme; residents have been invited to share their concerns via a door to door survey. Could the Cabinet Member give us an update report?”

Councillor Sheila O'Reilly to ask Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment

“Could the Cabinet Member for the Environment advise on the extent to which fly-tipping has increased since the introduction of the new recycling scheme?”

Proposed by Councillor Sam Hearn and Seconded by Councillor Gerald McGregor

This Council acknowledges that at the end of Hounslow Highways’ initial five year investment programme in January 2018, a significant number of streets will still not have been brought up to an acceptable standard of repair. The Council should therefore make appropriate provision in future budgets for all this work to be completed before the end of 2019-2020.

Proposed by Councillor Gerald McGregor and Seconded by Councillor Sam Hearn

This Council calls upon Heathrow Airport to ensure that all relevant and appropriate pollution standards are met and not exceeded.

Proposed by Councillor Katherine Dunne and Seconded by Councillor Corinna Smart

This Council notes,

·         that the London Borough of Hounslow, as the first borough in the country to experience full roll out of Universal Credit Full Service, has identified many issues that cause problems for our residents claiming Universal Credit and has submitted evidence to the Work and Pensions Select Committee as well as writing to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, and senior DWP officials to express our concern and make recommendations for change;

·         that the gradual national roll out of Universal Credit Full Service is set to speed up significantly from October, going from around 5 new areas each month to around 50 new areas each month.

The Council resolves,

·         to support the recent call by the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for a pause to Universal Credit roll out until the issues that have been identified are resolved.

Any Other Matters That the Mayor Considers Urgent
