Welcome and Introductions


The Chair requested that the meeting stand for a minutes silence to mark the death of Jo Cox MP, who died earlier in the day.


The Chair welcomed Cllrs Curran, Dennison and Mayne to the meeting.


Apologies for absence, declarations of interest or any other communications from Members


Councillors Peter Carey and Alan Mitchell had given their apologies in advance of the meeting.

Matters arising from the minutes


The Chair highlighted paragraph 60 and noted that the committee had still to receive a response from Cllr Dennison to the recommendations and action points raised at the budget meeting held on 2 February 2016.




A further letter to be sent from the Chair to Cllr Dennison on this matter.

Cllr Mel Collins was appointed Vice-Chair of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee


Cllr Samia Chaudhary was appointed Chair of the Children & Young People Scrutiny Panel.

Appointed to the panel were Councillors Atterton, Carey, Choudhury, Collins, Green, Lynch, Mitchell, and Sharma.

Co-optees appointed to the panel were Jacqui Corley and Robert Was.


Cllr Lily Bath was appointed Chair of Heath & Adult Care Scrutiny Panel.
Appointed to the panel were
Councillors Barwood, Bath, Carey, Collins, Green, Malhotra, Mehrban and Purewal.

Co-optees: Emma Cartwright and Stephen Otter


Cllr Colin Ellar was appointed Chair of Housing & Environment Scrutiny Panel.

Appointed to the panel were Councillors Atterton, Carey, Ellar, Gurung,Hearn, Howe, Khan, and K Malik.

Responding to a question from Cllr Collins, Cllr Curran stated that the Parking Charges item due for July Cabinet would be withdrawn. Cllr Curran, in the work planning workshop following the meeting would be requesting Scrutiny to work with the Cabinet on this issue.


Cllr Curran also stated that Cabinet would be receiving a report on Non-Permanent Staff in July following the discussions and recommendations made by the Overview & Scrutiny Committee at its April meeting.
